City Rhythm

A city apartment right in the heart of Brussels, in an Art Deco building, high ceilings, ceiling roses from the period, an old fireplace that was already there. I wanted the inside to keep the rhythm of the street it sits on: contrast, movement, a burnt-orange sofa you see the second you walk in, large-scale prints where the rooms can carry them. Rhithm is created by repetition - the pendants marking out the ceiling, a big grid of panelling on the dining wall answered by a fine grid woven into the rug, bricks of the fitrplace, a run of vertical slats behind the bed. The whole job was doing that without the flat becoming loud, so all of it plays against pale, quiet walls, and each room gets one strong move and then stops.
